Day 5 of my Canada trip had some of the best things I ate on the whole trip!
This morning we decided to go out for breakfast and eat what I’d been begging to try the whole trip: Tim Hortons. This breakfast/lunch fast food chain doesn’t exist in Florida or most U.S. states, but its closest equivalent is Dunkin. We saw these on every corner in Canada. Everywhere you look there’s a Tim Hortons, and every other person you see is carrying a coffee cup from Tim Hortons. I had to try it!
This was a life changing experience for me as a breakfast lover and Dunkin girlie. I already miss Tim Hortons so much. I ordered a full breakfast to try as much as I could. First, I ordered the Everything Croissant with bacon, egg, and no cheese (I am a cheese hater). At first, I was worried by its size because I’m used to the huge Dunkin croissants, and this one was smaller. However, it filled me up. The croissant was warm and flavorful from the everything bagel seasoning. Its texture was buttery, and flaky with a teensy bit of crispness on the outside that was just right. The egg was a real egg, which surprised me when I realized the egg white and yolk were separated, unlike the artificial eggs I’m used to in sandwiches at U.S. fast food restaurants. The sandwich was delicious!
For my donut, I ordered the Walnut Cruncher, a chocolate donut in a log shape. It was a traditional chocolate cake donut. It tasted sweet and delicious—not significantly better than U.S. chocolate donuts in my opinion. But the glaze on the outside was super sticky sweet, and it had walnuts inside that offered a nice crunch.
The coffee, though, is what made my day. I ordered an Oreo Double Stuffed Iced Cappuccino with almond milk. This was the best decision ever! It was like drinking an actual Oreo. The drink was not an iced liquid drink how I thought—it was more like a frappe or frappuccino from Starbucks or Dunkin. It was perfection. Every sip was syrupy sweet, and the coffee had a deep, rich flavor that enhanced the cookies and cream flavor of the drink. The cream on top, I discovered, was not whipped cream, but a thick cream like the stuffing in an Oreo! When mixed in with the coffee, it made the drink taste even creamier. This was probably the best iced coffee drink I’ve ever had. I am so sad I’ll never get to drink it again.
And that was part one of day five in Canada (I had so many things to say, I had to split it into two posts!) Stick around to see what I ate at Kensington Market!
