Another Broken Egg Cafe: Cinnamon Roll French Toast and Beignets

I’m always looking to try new brunch spots, and I recently had possibly one of the greatest brunches ever at Another Broken Egg Cafe. This is a cute, small brunch spot a friend I went to in Tampa. I’ve never been to Another Broken Egg Cafe before, but I will definitely be returning! They have a huge menu with many choices from a variety of traditional brunch options like omelets to crazy fun creations like their seasonal lobster hash benedict.

My friend and I first decided to split an order of their biscuit beignets as an appetizer. I’ve heard amazing things about these beignets, and they lived up to the hype. I still dream about these beignets. The texture of the outside was crunchy fried dough and the inside was thick and cakey. Though thick, the centers of the beignets weren’t dry—they felt moist in a pleasing way. When I bit down on the beignet, there was a satisfying crunch from the outer shell and then my teeth sunk into the dense dough inside. Powdered sugar dusted generously over the outside gave them a sweet flavor, though not overly sweet. The beignets came served with orange marmalade that made them taste citrusy and tangy, though it didn’t taste too sugary, either.

For my entree, I ordered the Cinnamon Roll French Toast, one of Another Broken Egg Cafe’s specialties. It comes with three slices of French-toast style cinnamon rolls topped with cream cheese icing, rum butter sauce drizzle, seasonal berries, and whipped cream. It also comes with eggs any style (I chose scrambled) and a choice of protein (I chose chicken sausage). The sausage and eggs were cooked to perfection and made for the best savory and salty combination with the sweet french toast. The toast itself tasted mouthwateringly sweet and buttery. I can’t stop thinking about it. It was essentially like three giant cinnamon rolls flattened into french toast shape, yet they had the thick, near-fluffy texture of french toast. It was, as the name implies, a perfect blend of cinnamon rolls and french toast.

The cinnamon swirls inside the “french toast” were big and actually tasted strongly of cinnamon. The french toast looked over an inch thick and absorbed all of the indulgent toppings. The rum butter sauce was my favorite element; it tasted super sweet like caramel and slightly tangy, not tasting of alcohol at all. Usually, I have a problem with rum or bourbon-based sweet sauces because I can still taste the alcohol like a burn in my throat, but this wasn’t there at all. The sauce was saccharine, buttery, and rich! I couldn’t get enough of it. The cream cheese icing on top tasted creamy and sweet, too. The toppings combined so well together and made a splendor of flavor with the french toast. The blackberries, blueberries, and strawberries were fruity, fresh, and firm. This was just perfect. I am obsessed with this cinnamon roll french toast.

I need to go back and try all of their other fun french toast combinations!
