Village Inn: Crepes and Pie!

My family and I used to go to Village Inn much more often when I was a kid since it was one of the only breakfast places around, and it was cheap. Things have changed since then, but I still love Village Inn! It gives me a nostalgic feeling when I step inside to the bright colored walls, the (usually) sticky floors, and the aroma of greasy, buttery breakfast foods.

When we visited recently, they had seasonal crepes that are currently still available. I had to try them. Our server told me that they were delicious, and she was right! I ordered the Chocolate Hazelnut Banana Crepe Combo. It came with two crepes filled with banana and chocolate hazelnut spread topped with whipped cream, a generous drizzle of chocolate hazelnut spread, and banana slices. On the side were hash browns and two slices of bacon. This was a hearty, delectable meal! The bacon was extra crispy just like I’d requested. It had a touch of a pleasant charred flavor that I always look for in bacon. The hash browns were also amazing—starchy, and the top layer was crunchy and a bit browned. These two made the perfect savory companions to the ultra sweet crepes!

I love crepes, and I was honestly surprised Village Inn was able to make such good ones. These crepes were thick and warm, filled to the brim with banana and chocolate hazelnut spread. The flavor was rich, slightly nutty but more chocolatey, and extremely sweet. I enjoyed the flavors but was surprised to find myself appreciating the texture, too! Crepes can tend to get floppy and mushy fast, but these ones were more firm and even crispy at the edges (which I personally prefer). They kept their shape and didn’t fall apart when I cut into them. The banana still tasted and felt fresh and solid. Although two crepes may not sound like much, with everything combined, I was very full by the end.

We also got pie to-go since you can’t go to Village Inn and not get one of their signature pies! My favorite is the Chocolate Peanut Butter Cup Pie. Whenever I eat this, I’m always satisfied, and that remains true for this time! The pie is multi-layered: on the bottom is the chocolate French Silk Pie, in the middle is a peanut butter silk with chunks of peanut butter cups, and on top is whipped cream, more chocolate peanut butter cups, and peanuts! This pie is super saccharine, creamy, and silky smooth. The peanut butter cups and peanuts in each bite give it some crunchiness and chewiness. The peanut butter flavor is relatively strong, in perfect balance with the chocolate, but it’s definitely more sweet than salty. Any peanut butter and chocolate lover like me will love this pie!
